Last week, Henry posted an article with 30 Fonts Perfect for Vintage and Retro Style Design and I simply loved the first font of the list, the matchbook typefaces. By the time I saw it I could think of several good ways to use it in web design, print design on even other ways. I was so inspired that I decided to do a selection of retro and vintage websites for our weekly web design inspirational post.
I really like retro and vintage stuff… websites, posters, print, adds, everything. I think it’s amazing how an ‘old style’ still get our attention and appreciation. For this selection of retro and vintage web designs, you will see retro and vintage elements, fonts, images, colors, textures, etc. I hope you enjoy the selection. And of course, if you have a cool retro/vintage font site to share with us, the comments are open.
great list my all time favourite “fortyseven media”
Oh great inspiration roundup! The grungy vintage style is one of my personal favorites. Thanks so much.
Great source of inspiration!
Some really cool designs here. Love the vintage look!
Nice layouts!
Something to share: vintage matchboxes – http://www.ideafixa.com/2010/03/27/caixinhas-de-fosforo-vintage/
Thanks a lot for this great list!
Very cool designs for inspiration and to have fun!
These are so great! I love the targetscope one. Thanks so much!
Really nice list of vintage websites. I truly enjoy the mix up of design.
Here is another one – http://www.visualmedia.lv/
I love Eighty Two Design and icblind’s designs. They’re fantastic in both the typography and simpleness of the sites.
Loving Lataka’s site. Really smooth and graphically beautiful.
Great post! This website has a great retro look too: http://meeq.nl
Some great inspiration here. Love these looks…
i really hate this style
Some of these are very creative like The Dollar Dreadful and the Wayward Irregular. And some of these are disgusting and bloated. Good collection.
Retro for the sake of retro is never cool retro.
Nice list but, you missed one 😉

Great round-up. WDL has been so good lately. Thanks guys!
great old-style web sites thanks
What an inspiring collection you have here.
edgewater & prahba are my favorite.
Some great sites. Thanks for this.
Bookmarked!
Great collection of sites. Adding some of those into my screen saver folder! Thanks.
This is a great collection. Thanks for taking the time to collect and make a post out of this.
Some of these are slick. Others are just visual pollution that make me want aspirin.
The two best executions, in my opinion, are The Dollar Dreadful and the Wayward Irregular. Similar to these two (and extremely fun reading) is Lord Likely (http://www.lordlikely.com/), which you don’t have in your list.
(I would drop iso50, which isn’t retro at all. Replace it with Lord Likely. And no, I have nothing do to with the Lord Likely site.)
The Dollar Dreadful site is amazing, especially seeing that it was from 2007.
Web design has certainly progressed since this article was published, but inspiration is timeless!
Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m not sure how iso50 is “retro.” At the very least, it’s the least retro of the bunch.
Great collection, though. Thanks!
Very cool. Thanks for posting.
You missed a frequently listed one – http://www.torpedojuice.co.uk

Awesome post. Placed to StumbleUpon as well. Hope that helps others find it.
I can’t decide if I’m inspired or if seeing this makes me want to quit. These are so amazing!!!
Well I admit the designs did inspire me it’s just I am not that good at photoshop. Guess I need to sharpen my skills
Nice collection – some lovely visuals to inspire.
The only problem (for me) is that the actual build/implementation of these is often shocking. Half of the Flash-based templates don’t even have a non-Flash backup version beyond a ‘you need to update’ message. Many of those that look nicest from a distance are a bitch to actually use./navigate due to over-reliance on pretty design over functionality. Would be nice to see a bit more focus from designers on usability – after all, nice pictures is a first impression, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for, they won’t count for much.
great compilation. very inspiration indeed.
Great list of sites, very retro and vintage!
nice sharing.. thank you..
Brilliant collection!
What a great list – here’s another one…

I keep coming back to this list for inspiration and there are so many wonderful vintage/retro designs. But Media Boom is just about the most amazing design I’ve seen in ages. What an experience! I felt like I was back walking around in the 40’s.
Great! I need some inspiration for a website design i’m working on for a client. Thank you for this!
